Case Handle
What is the "practice area" for a lawyer that could handle this case?
I will be filing a case against Bank of America for money not returned after my account was frauded this past November. I am still in the process of trying to find a lawyer (my local bar association charges a fee!) and I need to know the practice area of the lawyer I need for such a case. What would lawyer have to practice in order to handle a case against Bank of America for money owed?
Before You Get a lawyer, read the account agreement Between You and Bank of America. You may have agreed to binding arbitration.
Then call your state's banking department. They can give you advice on how to file a complaint with them.
Then find out what your state laws are regarding small claims court. These are usually somewhere between $2500 and $5000. If the amount is around this, small claims would probably be your best bet.
Lastly, look online or in your phone book for a general practice attorney. If he/she can't help you, they can usually recommend someone that can.
